Traditional Temple-Style Form

One of the defining features of Vishwakarmaa Creations is our focus on maintaining the traditional rounded temple-inspired appearance of Mahaprabhu.

Rather than creating simplified rectangular wooden figures, the deity forms are carefully shaped by hand.

The distinctive eyes, arms, expressions, proportions and traditional colours are individually created to preserve the visual character associated with Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra.

Bamboo & Wooden Jointing — No Metal Nails

We do not use ordinary metal nails to join the hands of the deities.

Instead, our family follows traditional bamboo/wooden locking and wooden nail techniques.

This method requires additional time, skill and patience, but it is an important part of the traditional Daru craftsmanship followed by Vishwakarmaa Creations.

Traditional Shaptabaran Process

After the Neem wooden forms are completed, the deities undergo the traditional Shaptabaran process.

The wooden form is gradually prepared through multiple layers before the final colouring and detailing begins.

The traditional stages represented in our craftsmanship include:

1. Neem Wooden Form

The carved wooden structure forms the foundation of the deity.

2. Chhāchi Patta

Used traditionally as one of the preparation layers.

3. Sal Wood Resin & Sesame Oil Preparation

Applied as part of the traditional layering process.

4. Neta Patta

Another stage in the traditional preparation of the deity.

5. Sandalwood, Camphor, Musk & Kumkum Preparation

Used as part of the traditional treatment of the surface.

6. White Cloth Layer

Applied as another important layer over the prepared wooden form.

7. Khaduā & Sandal Preparation

Creates the final prepared surface before colouring begins.

This detailed process is one of the reasons our Jagannath Murtis require substantially more time than ordinary mass-produced wooden idols.

Banaka Lagi — Traditional Hand Colouring

Once Shaptabaran is completed, the murti proceeds to Banaka Lagi.

This is where the sacred appearance of each deity gradually comes alive through colour and hand detailing.

Mahaprabhu Jagannath receives His iconic black appearance, large circular eyes and traditional markings.

Lord Balabhadra receives His distinctive white appearance and detailed facial features.

Sudarshan is individually prepared and decorated as part of the complete set.

Every eye, line, ornament and decorative feature is completed manually.

There is no printed face or machine-produced finish.

Each stroke carries the hand of the artisan who created it.
