The wooden form is individually carved and shaped by hand before progressing through the traditional stages of preparation.

Traditional Temple-Style Form

One of the defining characteristics of Vishwakarmaa Creations is our focus on the traditional rounded temple-inspired form of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra.

Rather than simplifying the deities into basic rectangular wooden figures, the body forms are carefully shaped to retain the distinctive appearance associated with Mahaprabhu.

The large sacred eyes, open arms, facial expressions, colours and body proportions are individually completed by hand.

Bamboo & Wooden Jointing — No Metal Nails

The hands of the deities are not attached using ordinary metal nails.

Instead, our family follows traditional bamboo/wooden locking and wooden nail techniques while constructing the murti.

This requires more time and skill than modern production shortcuts, but it remains an important part of how we approach traditional Daru craftsmanship.

Traditional Shaptabaran Process

Once the Neem wooden form has been completed, the deities undergo the traditional Shaptabaran process.

The murti is gradually prepared through multiple layers before the final colouring begins.

The traditional process represented in our craftsmanship includes:

1. Neem Wooden Form

The carved wooden structure forms the foundation or skeleton of the deity.

2. Chhāchi Patta

Applied traditionally as one of the important layers in preparing the wooden form.

3. Sal Wood Resin & Sesame Oil Preparation

Used as part of the traditional layering process.

4. Neta Patta

Another traditional layer involved in preparing the deity.

5. Sandalwood, Camphor, Musk & Kumkum Preparation

Used within the traditional preparation of the surface.

6. White Cloth Layer

Added as another important stage in preparing the murti.

7. Khaduā & Sandal Preparation

Creates the final prepared surface before the deity receives its colours and detailing.

This careful process is one of the reasons a traditional Vishwakarmaa Creations murti requires considerably more time than an ordinary commercially produced wooden idol.

Banaka Lagi — Traditional Hand Colouring

After Shaptabaran comes one of the most recognizable stages of the creation process — Banaka Lagi.

The sacred colours and expressions of each deity are individually completed by hand.

Lord Jagannath receives His iconic black form and large circular eyes.

Lord Balabhadra receives His distinctive white form and traditional markings.

Devi Subhadra is completed in Her radiant yellow form.

Sudarshan is prepared and detailed as part of the complete Chaturdha Murti set.

The eyes, facial markings, ornaments and decorative details are carefully painted one by one.

No two sets will ever be completely identical because every stroke is created by hand.
